FOR ENGLISH TEACHERS ONLY
When we started using TV series in class, we immediately realized that it piqued our colleagues’ interest. They saw how motivated our students were and what a great opportunity to break out of your coursebook routine it provided, and wanted to do the same. And faced some difficulties – it’s not that easy. To create your own course you need to have a certain level of expertise and at least 8 hours of spare time to develop materials for one episode. So we decided to meet demand and share our three courses based on the most popular TV series of 2020 – Why Women Kill, Emily In Paris and The Undoing.
Why we use TV series:
- real world content and speech
- a student needs only 3.000 words to watch a TV series (while reading a book requires 7.000-8.000 words)
- they are perfect for short summer courses and for courses throughout the academic year
- recycling of language
- incidental learning (4 new words/episode) and deliberate learning (20-40 new collocations/episode)
- students sound more natural and speak more fluently
- it helps to overcome the language barrier and start watching TV series in English
- suitable for both online and offline lessons
- they are fun and help to motivate students, keep them engaged and improve student retention
Each course includes:
- study pack
- teacher’s notes & answer key
- Quizlet sets
